Please note that it is essential that the following information regarding our school uniform and dress code are strictly adhered to for all students attending Lutterworth High School.

Rationale
Promote equality and reduce bullying. Uniforms act as a social leveller, ensuring students from different backgrounds look the same and reducing pressure to wear expensive, fashionable brands.
Enhance focus. By removing daily wardrobe decisions, students can focus more on their education, while a consistent dress code encourages a professional mindset.
Safety and identity. Uniforms make it easier to identify students in school or on trips, improving security. They also foster a sense of belonging, unity, and school identity.
Practicality for parents/ carers. They simplify morning routines for parents/ carers and students, reducing the time and effort spent on choosing outfits.
Blazer – mandatory branded item
How it should be worn
The blazer must be worn to and from school. We operate the system of ‘blazer first’ whereby the blazer must be put on first before a coat. It may be removed in the classroom without asking a teacher for permission.
Tie – mandatory branded item
How it should be worn
This must be worn correctly with seven stripes or more at the wide end.
Jumper – optional branded item
How it should be worn
This is worn in addition to not instead of the blazer. Outside the classroom, a blazer must always be worn over the top.
Shirt
The shirt must be white with a collar. Short and long sleeve are acceptable and can be independently sourced. Please ensure it is long enough to be tucked in and the neck size is comfortable when the top button is done.
How it should be worn
Shirts must be tucked in at all times whilst inside the building. This rule is relaxed when students are outside at recreation time and involved in games.
Black formal pleated skirt
This may be independently sourced and is also available through our supplier as a branded and unbranded item.
How it should be worn
The skirt must be worn at a reasonable length. A reasonable length is longer than the reach of fingertips when arms are at the side.
Black formal trousers
These may be independently sourced.
Black formal shorts
These may be independently sourced and are also available through our supplier.
How it should be worn
The shorts must be worn at a reasonable length. A reasonable length is longer than the reach of fingertips when arms are at the side. Shorts must be worn at the waist and not turned up.
Shoes
Must be ALL black and a suitable formal style for school. Coloured logos/laces/soles or high heels and open-toes are not acceptable. Boots are not acceptable. Sports labels are not acceptable. Clarks and Kickers shoes are accepted but please ensure they are the more formal style. Kickers trainer style shoes are not acceptable. Dr Martens shoes are acceptable but not boots. Pumps and trainers are not accepted. Parents/ carers must therefore avoid all pump and trainer brands including Adidas, Nike, Lacoste, Lonsdale, Vans and Converse. Ballet style pumps are not accepted as they offer insufficient protection of the feet in practical subjects.
Socks/Tights
Students are to wear socks in either black or white. Tights, if worn, must be black. Socks cannot be worn over tights. Leggings are not acceptable.
Coats
These may be independently sourced. Over the head and zip up hoodies are not accepted.
Physical Education
PE top – mandatory branded item
This is available from our uniform supplier.
Black shorts
These must be plain back with no pattern. There must be no discernible logo or brand visible. These are available as branded and unbranded items through our uniform supplier and may also be independently sourced.

The shorts must be worn at a reasonable length. The short length must reach longer than fingertips when arms are at the side.
Black skort
These must be plain back with no pattern. There must be no discernible logo or brand visible. These are available as branded and unbranded items through our uniform supplier and may also be independently sourced.
Black leggings
These must be plain back and opaque with no pattern or panels. There must be no discernible logo or brand visible. These are available as branded and unbranded items through our uniform supplier and may also be independently sourced.
Black hoodie or black quarter-zip (Optional item)
These items can be worn as an extra layer of warmth in cold weather. Branded and unbranded items are available from our uniform supplier.
These may also be independently sourced. These must be plain back with no pattern. There must be no discernible logo or brand visible. Hoodies must not have a drawstring for safety reasons.
May be independently sourced:
- Lace-up trainers, suitable and clean for PE
- Black socks
- Football boots, shin pads and mouth guards – for health and safety these must be worn for soccer and/or hockey lessons
- Black swimming trunks/costume and towel for swimming lessons
- Black ‘skins’ style baselayers may be worn under the PE top and shorts/skort in cold weather.
Make up
Students are allowed to wear minimal make-up to school – light foundation and natural lash mascara.
False nails and false eyelashes are not allowed.
Nails – No gel or acrylic extensions. No coloured varnish. A neutral varnish can be worn. Nails must be kept short.
It is at the school’s discretion as to what is acceptable.
Jewellery
Students are allowed to wear minimal jewellery to school – a bracelet, stud earrings and wrist watch.
Earrings must be removed before any PE lesson. We cannot take responsibility for any jewellery or watches.
Smart watches which accept texts or calls are not accepted.
Smart glasses are not accepted.
Body piercings of any kind on the face/body are not allowed.
It is at the school’s discretion to decide what is acceptable.
Hair Styles/Colour
Any colouring should appear natural and extreme styles are not accepted. This includes shaved areas and tramlines. Braids must not include coloured extensions that are not a natural colour.
Hair clips and bands must be a neutral colour (black, brown, bronze, blonde, white).
It is at the school’s discretion to decide what is acceptable.
Headwear
Baseball caps are not allowed. Topis, kippah, hijabs and patka must be plain black with no decoration or embroidery.
Body Art
Students are not allowed tattoos or henna or any variation. The only exception is by prior arrangement for religious festivals.
Essential Equipment
All students need to be ready to learn in their lessons, which includes bringing in the correct equipment for all subjects. They will need a pen, purple pen, spare pen, pencil, ruler, eraser and pencil sharpener for all of their lessons. In some lessons they will also need a protractor, compass, coloured pencils/pens and a scientific calculator. It is important that students look after these and they are labelled or kept in a labelled pencil case.
It is strongly recommended that students bring a water bottle. There are filling stations around the school. Students must re-fill their water bottles at break and lunchtime.
Pre-loved uniform
This is a popular choice for parents and we offer a wide range of pre-loved uniform in excellent condition.

Hot weather
When it is hot weather the school will operate a ‘shirt sleeves’ policy. Students will not need to wear their tie or their blazer and these items can be left at home during the period of hot weather. In extreme heat conditions students will be allowed to wear PE kit. Parents/ carers and students will be notified of when this starts and when it ends.
Decision making and compliance
Students will be issued a consequence in line with the behaviour policy for deliberately not wearing the uniform correctly. Where there is persistent failure to comply, the school may issue a level 5 internal suspension. If a student is not wearing the correct uniform and the issue is not resolved the student will be withdrawn from lessons until the infringement is resolved.
Where a student persistently wears either the skirt or shorts at an unreasonable length the student will lose the privilege to wear the item and will be required to wear trousers.
All decisions as to how the uniform is worn and the suitability of items are at the discretion of the school.
